The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the elimination of a notorious terrorist commander, Munzur Ya Audu, along with 114 other insurgents during recent military operations across various regions of Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
Buba emphasized the military’s intensified efforts to dismantle the operational capabilities and networks of terrorist groups across the country. He noted that operations have been targeting key logistics bases and other facilities linked to these groups.
“During the week under review, troops neutralised 115, arrested 238 and rescued 138 kidnapped hostages,” Buba stated.
He also highlighted the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including 145 assorted firearms and 3,825 rounds of ammunition. Among the recovered items were one GPMG, two PKT guns, 68 AK-47 rifles, 24 fabricated rifles, and several other weapons.
Additionally, troops seized 2,093 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 246 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 317 rounds of GPMG/PKM ammunition, and various explosives and cartridges.
Regional Breakdown of Operations
North East
Troops under Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 61 terrorists, apprehended 34 suspects, and rescued 32 hostages.
North Central
Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke led to the elimination of 18 violent extremists, the arrest of 48 suspects, and the rescue of 48 hostages.
North West
Operation Hadarin Daji resulted in 28 terrorists neutralized, 77 suspects apprehended, and 57 hostages rescued.
The Air Component of the North West operations also conducted targeted airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Safana and Batsari areas of Katsina State. According to Buba, these strikes eliminated several terrorists and destroyed their infrastructure.
“On Nov. 11 and Nov. 13, the air component carried out interdictions in Shinkafi and Zurmi local government areas of Zamfara, resulting in the destruction of terrorist logistics and the elimination of numerous insurgents,” he added.
South East
In the South East, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralized six terrorists, apprehended 13 suspects, and rescued one hostage during the week.
The military reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the nation and dismantling all forms of terrorist activities.
