The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Ata, has expressed delight over the recent appointment of Senator Kawu Samaila as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).
The minister, who expressed profound gratitude to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio over the appointment, said Senator Sumaila will bring a wealth of legislative experience to his new crucial role.
“Senator Kawu Samaila, representing Kano-South Senatorial District under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), brings a wealth of legislative experience to this crucial role. With four terms in the House of Representatives and a sterling record of service as a Minority Leader and a former presidential aide, Senator Samaila’s expertise and leadership qualities make him an excellent choice for steering this critical committee, ” a statement signed by the Minister’s aide, Seyi Olorunsola, said on Wednesday.
PlatinumPost reports that the new appointment follows the unfortunate passing on of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who previously held the position.
Minister Ata also specifically appreciate the unwavering support of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, in endorsing Senator Samaila’s appointment and commended the Senate leadership for recognizing and harnessing the immense potential of Kano’s political actors in advancing national development.
“The Honourable Minister emphasized that this appointment exemplifies a strategic political gesture that underscores the political sagacity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. By entrusting this pivotal committee to an opposition Senator from Kano, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) demonstrates its commitment to inclusive governance and national unity.
“This move is not only a testament to the Senate’s confidence in Senator Samaila’s abilities but also a calculated effort to strengthen ties with influential political figures in Kano,” the statement said.
Reflecting on the broader political implications, Ata recalled his commitment to bringing back notable Kano political stalwarts to the APC fold.
He described Senator Samaila’s appointment as a compelling reason for the Senator to consider returning to his former political platform.
“This development aligns with our vision to rally Kano’s key political actors under the APC banner, thereby consolidating our party’s strength in the region,” the Minister stated.
Ata also recalled Senator Samaila’s glowing endorsement of him during his ministerial screening, despite their differing political affiliations.
The Minister further expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support for Kano State, noting that recent developments have placed Kano’s political players on the national stage.
“President Tinubu’s vision and love for Kano are evident in decisions like this, which will ultimately enhance national cohesion and progress,” he added.
Ata reiterated his confidence in Samaila’s capacity to lead the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) effectively and urged the Senator to leverage this opportunity to serve with distinction, strengthen national institutions, and contribute to advancing Kano’s political relevance on the national front.
