Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has expressed confidence that the country’s economy will experience substantial growth by 2025.
Speaking on Saturday in Abuja at a one-day retreat for presidential aides and heads of units in his office, Shettima highlighted recent achievements, such as the country’s crude oil production reaching 1.8 million barrels per day, as indicators of positive economic progress.
The Vice President called on presidential aides and Nigerians in general to support President Bola Tinubu in fulfilling his mandate.
A statement from the presidency quoted Shettima as saying that despite Nigeria’s current economic challenges, the nation is on a growth trajectory, thanks to President Tinubu’s policies and commitment to transforming the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Shettima noted, “President Bola Tinubu is determined to change the fortunes of the nation. We all want to bequeath to the younger generation a united and progressive country.”
He acknowledged the economic hurdles but emphasized, “Yes, the economy has faced and is still facing challenges, but we have turned the corner. As of now, we are producing 1.8 million barrels of oil per day. The economy is on an upward trajectory, and I believe that in the new year, the economy will grow in leaps and bounds.”
The Vice President urged his colleagues in the presidency to work together as a team to help the President achieve his objectives, saying, “The country is greater than all of us. I urge you all to work as a team and as a family.”
In his remarks, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Hassan Hadejia, underscored the importance of seamless task execution by aides working within the Vice President’s office.
Hadejia highlighted key strategies, including strengthening communication, streamlining project funding, improving collaboration within the office, and fostering better engagement with ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure successful implementation of the government’s goals.
Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, also stressed the need for enhanced collaboration across the presidency to ensure the success of the administration’s policies.
Dr. Aliyu Moddibo Umar, Special Adviser to the President on General Duties, called on the aides to apply their knowledge, remain humble, and stay focused on their responsibilities in order to help achieve the government’s objectives.
The retreat was attended by key officials, including Permanent Secretary in the State House, Mr. Olufunso Adebiyi, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Mr. Tope Fasua, senior aides in the office of the Vice President, and directors in the Office of the Vice President.
