Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), distributed 80 vehicles to the youth of Abuja on Thursday, marking the conclusion of a nine-day initiative aimed at community development.
During the flag-off ceremony, Wike emphasized the Federal Government’s dedication to enhancing the livelihoods of young people in the FCT through the Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Initiative.
The fleet consisted of 30 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), 30 seven-seater Suzuki Minibuses, and 20 14-seater Hiace buses, all intended to create job opportunities for the youth while also alleviating transportation costs in the capital.
Wike highlighted that the vehicles were provided free of charge to beneficiaries from all six area councils of the FCT, aiming to furnish them with a sustainable source of income.
He urged the recipients to make proper use of the vehicles as intended.
“The government is saying this is our own support to make sure you have something to feed, to make sure you can support your family, and also to reduce the cost of transportation in the city,” he stated. “These are brand new vehicles, and they are not paying a dime. We are not saying pay the government any money.”
