Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has voiced grave concerns about the escalating insecurity in the North-West, where five out of seven states are grappling with violence, including kidnappings and banditry.
The governor’s message was delivered by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, during a courtesy visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs to the Kano State Government House on Monday.
Governor Yusuf urged the committee to prioritize the welfare of police personnel and ensure that resources allocated to the force are used effectively to bolster national security.
A statement issued on Monday by Ibrahim Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, emphasized the need for focused attention on the challenges facing rural communities.
These issues, the governor noted, have disrupted farming activities and undermined security in the region.
He also highlighted the state’s substantial investments in policing, citing institutions such as the Police Academy in Wudil, the Police Secondary School in Shanono, and a new facility in Kabo Local Government Area.
Governor Yusuf commended the police for their efforts in maintaining peace and security in Kano and noted the state government’s recent donation of over 70 vehicles to the State Police Command to enhance its operations.
In his remarks, Abubakar Yalleman, Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, said the visit was part of the committee’s oversight functions to assess the Kano Police Command.
He lauded Kano’s exemplary collaboration with security agencies, describing the state as a model of peace and visionary leadership in the region.
Yalleman also reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Kano State Government to achieve improved security outcomes.
