The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has called on school administrators to demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence in their leadership roles.
Bobboyi delivered this message during the opening of a three-day leadership training workshop for Vice Principals of UBE Model Smart Schools. The event, held at the UBEC Digital Resource Center in Kado-Kuchi, Abuja, was organized to strengthen leadership and mentoring skills among school managers.
Representing the Executive Secretary, the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Center, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, urged school leaders to focus on mentoring and coaching emerging school administrators to prepare them for future leadership roles.
Similarly, Dr. Hafsat L. Kontagora, Head of Capacity Building at the Digital Resource Center, stressed the importance of equipping school leaders with the necessary leadership competencies to thrive in the Smart School system.
In her welcome address, Dr. Kontagora highlighted the need for Vice Principals to effectively mentor and guide teachers, ensuring optimal performance in their roles. She emphasized the importance of fostering interpersonal skills and utilizing emotional intelligence to improve school leadership.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ abilities to manage emotions, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and build collaborative systems. It also focused on developing leadership mindsets and equipping school administrators with tools to create engaging and efficient learning environments.
Featuring interactive sessions, group activities, and practical exercises, the program sought to ensure that skills acquired during the workshop could be applied to achieve measurable outcomes in school administration.
