President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday firmly addressed critics who described his cabinet as “bloated,” stating that he has no intention of reducing the size of his 48-man cabinet.
During his first presidential media chat, aired by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the President explained that the current cabinet size was necessary to effectively address the diverse and complex challenges facing Nigeria.
He emphasized that the inclusion of various ministers was vital for achieving his administration’s goals across multiple sectors.
Tinubu’s defense came amid ongoing debates over the cost and effectiveness of a large cabinet. While some critics argue that a smaller cabinet would lead to more streamlined governance, the President remains resolute, highlighting the need for a wide range of expertise to tackle national issues effectively.
“I am not ready to shrink” the size of my cabinet, Tinubu said during a media chat at his Bourdillon residence in the highbrow Ikoyi area of Lagos State.
The former Lagos governor argued that “efficiency” has been at the core of his selection of ministers.
