Tragedy struck Shia Village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday night, January 7, 2025, when bandits launched an attack, killing three residents and leaving six others injured.
The attack occurred around 10:30 p.m., causing panic and chaos in the community.
Confirming the incident, Samuel Amalau, Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, expressed sadness over the loss of lives. He also disclosed that the injured victims are receiving medical attention at an undisclosed facility in Bokkos.
Security agencies have reportedly been mobilized to the area to prevent further attacks and restore calm.
He said, “This is a season of jubilation and excitement across our land yet some individuals, driven by malicious intent, have chosen to cause harm to lives and property. This act is deeply disheartening and unacceptable.”
He also urged security agencies across the country to ensure they swing into action by intensifying efforts to arrest the perpetrators of the criminal act.
Amalau said maintaining peace and order in the community and across Benue state is paramount for his administration.
He further assured that the LGA in his administration, is working tirelessly with security agencies and operatives to prevent a recurrence of such incident in Bokkos.
