John Mahama was officially sworn in as the new President of Ghana on Tuesday, during a grand inauguration ceremony held at Independence Square in Accra.

The event was attended by dignitaries, foreign representatives, and thousands of Ghanaians.

However, the ceremony took an unexpected turn when Mahama, in his inaugural address, mistakenly referred to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu as “the President of Ghana.” The gaffe drew murmurs from the crowd and later sparked reactions on social media, with many attributing it to the excitement and pressures of the moment.

Despite the slip, Mahama’s speech focused on unity, economic development, and fostering stronger ties with neighboring countries, including Nigeria. He pledged to prioritize policies aimed at uplifting Ghana’s economy and addressing pressing national issues.

Mahama succeeds Nana Akufo-Addo, who took over from him in 2017. This marks Mahama’s return to the presidency after seven years, following his victory in Ghana’s December elections.
