The immediate past Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abbas Sani Abbas, has formally dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbas, along with five others, were disengaged as commissioners by Governor Abba Yusuf last month.

His defection to the APC was announced during a visit to top APC leaders, including the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin in Kano.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mr. Jibrin shared the news of Mr. Abbas’ defection, stating: “I welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a moment ago.

“He served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month. During a visit to us in Kano, he announced his exit from the NNPP to the APC.”

The Deputy Senate President hailed Mr. Abbas for his dedication to grassroots mobilization and expressed optimism about his contributions to the APC.

“Joined by the Chairman of our party in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, we proudly embraced Hon. Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobiliser to our party. We assured him of our support as we work together to build a better future for the people of Kano State and, indeed, all Nigerians,” Jibrin said.
