Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially enacted the state’s ₦1.1 trillion 2025 budget into law.

Speaking on Thursday, January 2, 2025, during the signing ceremony, Fubara commended the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State Assembly for its diligence in passing the bill. He affirmed, “The only House of Assembly that exists in this state is the one led by Oko-Jumbo.”

The budget, submitted a week earlier to the Assembly, outlines government expenditures for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, and includes 12 distinct sections.

In a pointed remark, Fubara dismissed the legitimacy of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite their attempts to reverse their actions, Fubara declared they would no longer be recognized as legislators.

The defectors are known allies of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whose relationship with Fubara has been fraught with tension.

“No governor in Nigeria has endured the level of disrespect I have faced,” Fubara stated, emphasizing that the decision to disqualify the defected lawmakers is final and irreversible. He assured residents that his administration’s focus remains on advancing the state’s development agenda.
