The Nigerian military has announced the elimination of 109 terrorists and the arrest of 81 suspects during the first week of 2025 as part of its ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
In a statement issued on Friday, Major General Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized the military’s continued dedication to combating insurgents and their collaborators nationwide.
“During the week under review, troops neutralised 109 terrorists, arrested 81 suspects, and rescued 43 kidnapped hostages,” Buba revealed.
Breaking down the operations, he noted that troops under Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralised 64 terrorists, apprehended 28 suspects, and rescued 14 victims of abduction.
On January 3, 2025, the air component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out an airstrike on terrorist targets in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. “Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were eliminated, and their structures and logistics were destroyed,” Buba stated.
He said troops involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA neutralised 21 terrorists, arrested 24 suspects, and rescued five kidnapped individuals, according to the statement.
In the Niger Delta region, security forces thwarted oil theft attempts worth an estimated ₦618.8 million. “Troops destroyed 10 illegal refining sites, 12 boats, 10 crude oil cooking ovens, and other infrastructure used in illicit operations,” Buba reported.
He urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and support security efforts, reaffirming the military’s resolve to safeguard the nation. “Troops are continuing their successful operational engagements. As a result, citizens will continue to see the increasing effectiveness and efficiency of the armed forces,” he concluded.
