Lagos State has made history with the swearing-in of Mojisola Meranda as its first female Speaker.

Meranda, who represents the Apapa 1 state constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, took the oath of office on Monday during a plenary session following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Taking her oath of office, Meranda said, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape, as she becomes the first woman to lead the House of Assembly.

The transition of power comes amid a series of developments in the legislature, and Meranda’s leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the assembly
