The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) has praised Nigerians for their resilience in navigating the economic challenges of 2024.
In a New Year message on Wednesday, the foundation’s Director General, Engr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, emphasized the need for the government to implement comprehensive economic policies that will enhance the well-being of citizens in 2025.
The statement reads: “As we step into the promising horizon of 2025, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation extends heartfelt congratulations to every Nigerian for your resilience and unwavering spirit that have brought us to this significant moment. The dawn of the new year is a testament to our collective endurance, reflecting our ability to overcome the trials that have marked the preceding year.
“In 2024, we faced considerable challenges that tested our resolve. Economic hardships, rising inflation, and unemployment loomed large, while security concerns and infrastructural deficits further strained our national fabric. Despite these tribulations, the Nigerian people have demonstrated remarkable strength and unity, proving that our spirit cannot be easily diminished. Your perseverance in the face of adversity has not gone unnoticed; you are the true architects of hope in our nation.
“As we look forward to 2025, our aspirations rest heavily on the shoulders of our leaders across all levels of government. Citizens expect an unwavering commitment to addressing the pressing issues that affect our daily lives. We seek robust economic policies that foster growth and provide job opportunities, effective strategies to combat insecurity, and significant investments in infrastructure and healthcare. Our educational systems must be revitalized, ensuring that our youth are equipped with the skills necessary for a competitive future. In essence, we anticipate a holistic development approach that prioritizes the welfare of every Nigerian.
“In particular, we call on sub-national governments, especially in the northern states, to look inwards and explore sustainable strategies for harnessing our vast potentials for economic development. This involves not just relying on external assistance, but rather capitalizing on our rich resources, cultural heritage, and human capital to forge a path towards self-sufficiency and prosperity. By embracing innovative approaches and fostering local entrepreneurship, we can pave the way for a thriving economy that benefits all.
“While we urge governments at all levels to work diligently for the people, it is equally essential that citizens uphold their civic responsibilities. Active participation in governance, community development, and advocacy for transparency and accountability are fundamental to ensuring that our leaders remain responsive to the needs of the populace. In this symbiotic relationship, we must recognize that progress is a shared commitment, and it requires the active engagement of every individual.
“Moreover, we must emphasize the critical role of parents in shaping the future of our society. It is imperative that families imbibe moral and educational training in their children and wards, rather than leaving their development solely to society. By fostering an environment that prioritizes education, discipline, and respect for values, we can eliminate the scourge of out-of-school children and cultivate a responsible and productive generation. Together, we can build a society where every child is empowered to contribute positively to our nation.
“It is imperative that we, as citizens and leaders, collaborate to safeguard and cherish our beloved country, Nigeria. We must recognize that we have no other nation to call our own. The strength of our unity is our greatest asset; peace and harmony must reign supreme as we eschew any divisive acts or tendencies. History has shown us that we are at our best when we stand together as one people, embracing our diversity as a source of strength.
“The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the legacy of our founding father, Sir Ahmadu Bello KBE, Sardauna of Sokoto, whose principles of quality leadership and good governance are more relevant now than ever. We pledge to work diligently in promoting these virtues, advocating for a future where leadership is synonymous with accountability, integrity, and the unwavering pursuit of the common good.
As we embark on this new journey in 2025, let us embrace the challenges ahead with renewed vigor, knowing that together, we can build a prosperous and harmonious Nigeria. May this year bring peace, joy, and success to all Nigerians.”
