Counsel to Oba Otudeko, Chairman of the Honeywell Group, on Monday protested the N12.3 billion fraud charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking before a Federal High Court in Lagos, Mr. Bode Olanipekun (SAN), representing Otudeko and two other defendants, argued that the charge had not been served on his clients.

The EFCC’s 13-count charge implicates Otudeko, former First Bank Managing Director Olabisi Onasanya, former Honeywell board member Soji Akintayo, and Anchorage Leisure Ltd.

The commission alleges that the defendants obtained the funds under false pretenses.

Olanipekun maintained that proper legal procedures, including the service of charges, must be followed to ensure a fair trial. The case is expected to proceed after the issues surrounding service are resolved.
