Pope Francis, 88, experienced a fall at his residence in the Vatican, leaving him with a bruised right forearm, the Vatican confirmed on Thursday.

Despite the injury, no fractures were reported, and the pontiff is now using a sling as a precautionary measure.

“Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without fractures. The arm was immobilized as a precautionary measure,” stated the Vatican press office.

The incident occurred at the Santa Marta residence where the Pope has lived since the beginning of his papacy in 2013.

This marks the second fall for Francis in recent months. In December, he was seen with a prominent bruise on his right cheek after falling out of bed.

The Pope’s health has been a point of concern in recent years. He has faced ongoing issues with his knee and hip, as well as episodes of bronchitis. Since 2022, he has often relied on a wheelchair to manage mobility challenges.

Despite these setbacks, Pope Francis remains highly active. In September, he completed his longest international trip to date, visiting four nations over several days.
