The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of Mr. Banji Lawal as Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), representing the South-West geopolitical zone in the Force Management Team.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC.
According to the statement, Lawal succeeds Mr. Sylvester Alabi, the DIG previously in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, who retired on Dec. 31.
Prior to his appointment, Lawal served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) overseeing Border Patrol at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. His career also includes roles as Commandant of the Police Training College in Ikeja and Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations in Ekiti, Abia, and Edo states.
Ani noted that Lawal underwent rigorous evaluation, including written and oral examinations, during the Commission’s plenary session. During the process, Lawal was commended for his support of the Nigeria Police Force’s Community Policing initiative.
The PSC Chairman, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the new DIG on his promotion and encouraged him to actively contribute to the Police Management Team.
