Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists launched a deadly assault on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on January 4, 2025.

The attack targeted the Sabon Gari camp in the early hours of the morning, with the terrorists storming the base around 4 a.m. and engaging Nigerian troops in a fierce two-hour battle.

The assault resulted in the deaths of an unconfirmed number of soldiers, with many others reported missing. The terrorists, armed with a range of weapons, managed to overwhelm the soldiers stationed at the base.

“25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked during the weekend with so many casualties. So far, we have recovered over seven bodies,” a source told SaharaReporters.

The attackers reportedly burned several buildings and military operational vehicles during the raid.

This attack indicates ISWAP’s growing dominance in the Lake Chad region since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

The group has expanded its ranks with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters, increasing its operational capacity.

Despite the ongoing threat, the Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism in the country.
