10 die along Damaturu-Maiduguri road

Ten people lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in a tragic accident along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road, according to the Yobe State Police Command.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened around 10 a.m. on Tuesday at a security checkpoint in Warsala town. A truck carrying cement and passengers collided with a car before veering into a ditch.

“Of the 13 passengers on the trailer, 10 died instantly, while the three sustained injuries,” Abdulkarim said.

He added that the injured victims were taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu for medical care.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck lost control, crashed into the car at the checkpoint, and then plunged into the ditch.

The driver of the car, who was the sole occupant, escaped unharmed, though the vehicle sustained significant damage.
