The late Mr. Remi Abass, former Chairman of Irewole Local Government in Osun State, was buried in a tearful ceremony as residents mourned his untimely death.
Abass was killed during violent clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over control of local government council secretariats in Ikire, Irewole council headquarters.
At his burial in Ikire, mourners expressed outrage and sorrow, condemning the brutal manner of his death, particularly given his significant contributions to the development of the community.
In response, the APC in Osun State has called for its members to avoid council secretariats to honor Abass and others lost in the conflict.
The party’s chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, urged the police to intensify efforts in identifying and bringing the killers of Abass to justice.
The statement reads partly, “The untimely and sudden killing of the peace-loving and consummate politician was inhuman, wicked and callous.
“As a party, we direct the other chairmen and their councillors to stay off their respective council secretariat as a sign of respect for their fallen colleagues until further notice. We assure you that the late Abass would not be killed in vain”.
He commended all the council chairmen for acting in accordance with the Court of Appeal judgement that secured victory for them penultimate Monday.
