BREAKING: Scores feared dead as fuel tanker explodes in Abuja

There were fears of casualties on Wednesday night after a fuel-laden truck exploded near the Karu Bridge area of Abuja.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker lost control around the bridge, located between Kugbo and Nyanya on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, before bursting into flames. Several cars were reportedly trapped, with some occupants unable to escape.

Residents in the area desperately tried to reach emergency services, with distress calls still being made as late as 7:50 p.m., according to Vanguard.

Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties or the extent of the damage, but emergency responders are expected to launch a rescue operation.
