The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended its legislative sessions indefinitely following a decision made during Friday’s plenary, chaired by Speaker Martin Amaewhule in Port Harcourt.

This development comes shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara notified the Speaker of his intent to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for deliberation and approval.

In a letter dated March 13, addressed to Amaewhule, Fubara indicated his plan to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or another date within the month, depending on the Assembly’s preference.

Fubara explained that his request aligns with a Supreme Court ruling and follows lawmakers’ calls for him to resubmit the budget. He also recalled a previous attempt to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where lawmakers had temporarily convened, but he was denied entry to the complex.
