The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has exposed 58 fraudulent companies running illegal investment schemes, deceiving unsuspecting Nigerians and swindling them out of their hard-earned money.

According to the EFCC, these companies operate under the guise of legitimate investment platforms but lack proper registration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The discovery was made following separate correspondences received by the anti-graft agency from both regulatory bodies, confirming the firms’ illegal status.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the Commission revealed that it has already taken many of these companies to court.

Five of the companies have been convicted, while another five have pleaded guilty and are awaiting a review of facts. The remaining cases are pending arraignment.

This crackdown is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s financial landscape and protect the public from predatory operators.

The Commission has assured Nigerians of its vigilance in monitoring economic activities and its commitment to using its anti-corruption mandate to stimulate economic growth.
