As the world marks the International Women's Day 2025, a day set aside by the United Nations to raise awareness on the rights of women as well as celebrating their social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, it is also an opportunity to celebrate organisations, especially non-profit bodies who have raised the frontiers in harnessing full potentials of women, through empowerment in godly ways and giving them a platform to activate the virtue in them, making them through virtuous women.
One of such platforms is Women That Are Led (WTAL) a conference/movement founded by a woman of God, Chinyere Christiana Okonkwo which has empowered several women by drawing them closer to the word of God.
She teaches women that true and lasting empowerment can only come with godliness, not with worldliness. For her and her organization, the only way for a woman to be truly “empowered” would be to believe the gospel and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Being empowered with the Holy Spirit means that it is God's spirit which works mightily within humans, women to accomplish divine will for our lives.
WTAL movement which has been around for sometime is seeking to energize women with the capacity to activate the God-given treasure imbedded in them and the woman of God, Chinyere Christiana Okonkwo is extremely passionate about this.
The torch bearer of this mission is of strong belief that women need to understand the power they possess under submission, guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit, for her, contrary to popular belief, submission is not in anyway a sign of weakness but strength anchored on God’s own wisdom.
For her empowerment is not only about women being given opportunity to do what men do, it's not only about climbing the career ladder, making money, going into politics, becoming movers and shakers and acquiring influence and affluence. Rather, it should have everything to do with obeying the Lord and His will becsuse at the end, all riches of this life will vanish away then accountability begins.
"God’s will for women is to have meek and quiet spirits. It’s the complete opposite of what women are being taught these days. Instead of being taught to be empowered, they need to be taught who they are in Christ and His beautiful will for them", she said recently at her engagement with some Christian women.
She has launched a deeper research lately on one of her favorite Bible characters, Deborah. According to her, this strong woman stands out, one of a few mentioned prophetesses, and the only mentioned female judge of Israel and arguably the godliest one.
"I love the picture of Deborah, wife of Lappidoth, sitting at work under that palm tree in the hill country of Ephraim", she professed. “And the people of Israel came up to her for judgment” (Judges 4:4–5).
Chinyere Christiana Okonkwo sees Deborah as a strong woman used by God to exercise strategic leadership among God’s people, for her Deborah is beautiful and important character for women who want to truly want a peaceful life to copy from. She represents beauty, strength, and value.
She clearly respects and embraces Barak’s God-ordained role. Even when Barak is afraid to obey, Deborah does not belittle or replace him; rather, she helps him. She clearly focused on helping in lifting up Israel’s leaders — to encourage them and help them act like leaders.
Deborah was part of a people who were part of God’s redemptive plan for humanity, and she faithfully played her part. The story of Deborah isn’t mainly about Deborah. The primary and sovereign actor in this story is God.
Here’s to the Deborah’s of our time, holding down our homes in submission to God and our husbands.
"To the Deborahs holding it down in leadership in the court room, in our churches, in the medical theaters, in our various offices as CEO’s in the oil and gas sectors, in the banking sectors, in politics, in governance, from the pulpit to the market place and all works of life.
"You are a true leader , mighty and powerful. I just want to remind you today that God is exceptionally proud of you", she declared.
Chinyere Christiana Okonkwo apart from her foray in the body of Christ is also the CEO of Monac Global Investment Limited, an ICT company as well as Pistis Oil & Gas which have under her leadership recorded tremendous growth.
She holds Master degree from the University of Liverpool and is happily married to her lovely husband Pastor Ikechukwu Okonkwo of the “full expression fellowship”, a union blessed with three kids.
She is deeply rooted in the revival of the church in this last days in an effort to reconcile souls back to Christ in an easy, swift yet active way. She believes that women can have it all, both in their professional field and spiritual life and home front without compromising their dignity and integrity.
