"It is hypocritical for President Tinubu to condemn past leaders for similar actions and then follow in their footsteps when fate have his hands on him".
Hon. Blessing Oyefeso, President of Nigeria Youths in Politics decries in his words "i am compelled to express my strong condemnation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to declare a State of Emergency in Rivers State, suspending duly elected governor and state assembly for six months, and appointing a sole administrator".
This move is a blatant disregard for the principles of true federalism, which Nigeria claims to practice. It is a clear abuse of presidential powers, contrary to democratic principles and ideals that President Tinubu professed to uphold while as a young activist and Politician as well as during his presidential campaigns.
The timing and circumstances of this decision raise suspicions of political motivations, particularly given the ongoing power tussle between Governor Sim Fubara of the opposition PDP and a serving Minister Nyesom Wike.
Nigeria Youths in Politics organization is a proponent of true federalism and advocate of rule of law. "We must be watchful of the political values we are teaching leaders of tomorrow". As a mentor and role model to millions of young aspiring leaders, President Tinubu is toeing the path of past leaders who have no regards for Rule of Law.
Our youths are learning draconian leadership models. Nigeria is breeding crops of tomorrow's leaders that will undermine principles and values of true leadership.
As a proponent of true federalism, regards to rule of law and a staunch supporter of President Tinubu's emergence in the 2023 election, I am dismayed by this actions. It is hypocritical for the President to condemn past leaders for similar actions and then follow suit in their footsteps.
We urge President Tinubu to reconsider this decision and uphold the democratic principles that Nigeria strives to maintain. The youths of Nigeria will not stand idly, while our democracy is undermined.
Blessing Oyefeso,
President, Nigeria Youths in Politics
