A civil society organization, Unity Advance Group (UAG), has appealed for calm in the aftermath of the recent killings in Uromi, Edo State, which have sparked tension in some parts of the country.
The violence prompted a firm response from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, who assured the public that those responsible would be held accountable.
In a statement issued on Friday, UAG condemned the attack and cautioned against further escalation. The group warned that additional unrest could deepen Nigeria’s existing economic challenges.
Signed by UAG Convener Ifeanyi Aigbedion, the statement stressed the need for patience as security agencies investigate the incident.
According to Aigbedion, “Nigerians must learn how to tolerate each other. The Chief of Defence already promised that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Hence we must not take laws into our hands.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria under the able leadership of General Chris Musa has enough in their hands. We must not stretch the security agencies.
“No country thrive where there is persistent security challenge. The tensions is not good for the country.
“We urge those affected by the killings to remain calm and wait on the vow of the CDS,” UAG added.
